Patios, Walkways: Selecting Landscaping Colors
Selecting the color of your patio, walkway or driveway is a lot trickier than it seems. There are probably a few hundred options when you get into colors, borders and accent colors. This is true for remodeling projects that involve clay bricks or concrete pavers. Here’s a fun color selector!
That’s one reason why it pays to work with a good landscaping contractor who knows the various landscaping materials and can offer advice. Your contractor may suggest an orange brick to blend with the blue trim on your house or a gray brick if you want a more subtle look.
Ask the Contractor
One key question is whether you want to blend or contrast. Do you want your house paint colors to stand out and the patio to blend into the overall landscaping? Or, do you want the bright red walkways and patio to be the focal points? If you wanted to blend, select the same brick as the house in this image.
A landscaping contractor also should have an idea of how much you’ll need to order and how long it will take. Brick and concrete products can take 4- 6weeks for some of the more popular items.
If you’re landscaping more than one area, say the front walkway leading to the back yard and then the patio, you’ll typically want the same color for each. This creates a more unified look. Some people switch out the main bricks and the trim pieces, which can work in some situations.
Home Improvement Planning
Outdoor color selections can have a big impact on the overall look and feel of your home, but they often are overlooked until the home improvement planning is almost completed. A better approach is to plan ahead and look at samples at the beginning of your project. You can then start to narrow down all the choices and give your contractor time to order them.
