Remodeling the Master Bedroom
While the kitchen and bathroom get lots of attention in the home improvement world, the master bedroom often is overlooked. That place where you go to crash at the end of the day can become a wonderful retreat, with a little remodeling effort.
Glance around your room and give it a cold, hard assessment. Does the furniture fit the space? Is the bedding attractive? How is the paint?
Dividing Home Improvement
This type of home improvement project can be broken down into two segments – decorative and structural. The decorative part is the fun stuff- a new comforter and sheets, furniture, etc. The structural part might involve a contractor.
Among the popular ways for a contractor to fix up a bedroom is by adding nice wood trim. Decorative crown molding can help add dimension and depth to a room and tie in with existing window trim. Add decorative lighting and the molding become even more noticeable.
A fireplace also can add ambience to a room. There are many new models that vent directly outside and do not need a chimney or are run by electricity. Ask you contractor for advice on creating a nice cozy sitting area with a wall or floor mounted fireplace. Then have the contractor build a book shelf or fireplace surround to accent it and turn it into an important focal point.
Another key part of the room is the floor. If you’re tired of old carpeting, try adding wood in the space. A traditional oak or rich cherry can add an upscale look. In colder climates, top if off with an oriental rug to cover your main walking areas.
Home Improvement Planning
With a little home improvement planning, the master bedroom can become a wonderful retreat. Look at the space with a keen eye as you ponder all the possibilities.
