Start Planning Now for 2009 Remodeling
As the holiday season gets into full swing, you may have temporarily put aside thoughts of major remodeling projects. Before getting too comfortable, remember that remodeling takes planning and some of that planning can start now.
The holidays are a time for entertaining, so use that time to assess what you have and what you want. You’ll want to think about what you’re missing from your current kitchen design or how a bathroom remodeling could enhance the experience for visiting guests. Make a list of those remodeling ideas so you have them handy when the serious planning begins.
Finding a Contractor
Good contractors are often hard to find, so you’ll want to start calling a few now. How far ahead are they booking their remodeling projects? How much planning time is needed for yours? Are certain kitchen materials on sale during January? Some contractors even offer discounts if you book a project during the slow holiday season.
This is a good time to sketch out your own ideas on paper and start collecting magazine pictures and websites to visit. The more information you can give to a contractor, the easier the remodeling process will be.
Also use your own holiday visits to help narrow down your options. If you see a kitchen design you love at a friend’s house, make note of the cabinet style, the type of tile or other features you like. Don’t be shy about asking others for tips on pulling together a kitchen design or handling a remodeling project.
While the holidays are supposed to be filled with fun and laughter, there’s nothing wrong with sneaking in a little homework. The studying you do will make it that much easier to go into the New Year and plan your own remodeling project.
