2 Signs Your Roof Needs to Be Replaced or Repaired
Professional roofing contractors can save you time and money, as roof replacement is one of the most expensive parts of home ownership. Most homeowners are unaware of the more subtle signs that signal roof repair or replacement. Following are two common problems to look out for.
1) Water Leaks: Most homeowners catch large leaks fairly quickly. But, it’s the small continuous leaks that can cause severe damage because they are not spotted as quickly or easily. Roof leaks can be caused by a number of things. However, they can usually be divided into two categories: weather conditions and poor roof installation. To spot water damage in your roof, look for the following:
(i) Water stains: If you see water stains on the walls or on wood in the attic, for example, then you have a leak somewhere. The key is to determine where it’s coming from. Herein lies the problem for inexperienced homeowners.
While you may know what to look for, it can be difficult to determine where to start looking. Experienced roofing contractors are adept at finding out the source of roof leaks fairly quickly. And, most will prepare in-depth proposals on what the problem is and how much it’s going to cost to fix it.
(ii) Sagging Ceilings: Ceilings that sag or buckle signal water leaks. This can be caused by something as simple as missing shingles blown off during a storm, or to a hidden issue like water condensation due to poor roof ventilation.
As sagging ceilings don’t just happen overnight, this could signal a problem that has been going on for some time.
The bottom line: whenever water is involved, it’s time to call in experienced roofing contractors to find out the source of the problem.
2) Shingles: There are various problems with asphalt shingles that call for the experienced eye of roofing contractors. They are:
(i) Missing shingles: These are often caused by weather conditions like wind and rain, and should be replaced as soon as possible to prevent more severe problems, like the aforementioned water damage.
(ii) Buckled Shingles: The problem with buckled shingles is that they can crack. When this happens, the roof starts to leak. If shingles are buckling, it could be a sign of a more severe problem, hence the need for inspection by a professional roofing contractor.
(iii) Curling Shingles: Curling shingles signal two things – an aging asphalt roof that needs a complete repair, or a manufacturer’s defect. If your roof is fairly new and the shingles are curling, this is probably caused by the latter.
If your roof is 15 years old or older and the shingles are curling, it’s probably time for a new one. Roofing reinforcements on older roofs tend to constrict. This causes the curling seen in the shingles.
Whenever you have a problem with your roof, calling in professional roofing contractors to conduct thorough inspections will help you diagnose the problem quickly and easily.

Metal Roofing is definitely the best option to choose for a new roof or roof restoration, not only do they look great, but it doesn’t take much to apply a Heat Reflective Paint that not only cuts your air conditioning and heating bills by at least half, it will also provide a waterproofing and anti corrosion shield. You can apply it yourself, or Reflective Roof Insulation applicators are also available.
