Installing New Kitchen Cabinets: Is Home Depot an Option?
When having kitchen cabinets installed know that Home Depot and Lowe’s do have quality cabinets. Although there are higher quality products available, they may not be worth the money unless you have a high end property ($500,000 or more). If you do, they are almost a must. If you having a lesser-expensive property and are concerned about controlling cost, than your local home improvement store may not be a bad option.
It is easy to find a decent cabinet to fit your kitchen. The kitchen designers at Home Depot and Lowe’s are (fairly) knowledgeable and can help you.
Search for a price rage that is somewhere middle of the road:
Not too cheap- Buy preassembled cabinets. Assembling cabinets yourself is tedious and time consuming and is not worth the money you will save. If you have hired someone to install them, then the additional labor costs will make the savings nominal. Not to mention, they quality is considerably lower.
Not too expensive- Avoid up sells like ‘all-plywood construction.’ They are not worth the additional expense. Sanding and staining is always an option to improve the aesthetic.
Once you have cabinets installed it is okay to save money on a stock laminate countertop because it can always be upgraded at a later date.
Avoid up sells like “all-plywood construction”? RTAcabinetstore does not have up sells — all of their cabinets are solid wood fronts and plywood sides.
I also do understand the logic behind not buying pre-assembled? Theses cabinets are easy to assemble (one screw driver is all that is needed) and they save you about 40% off of retail assembled cabinets.
A better cabinet at a lower price.
Hi Dale & Company,
Thanks for your comments on our blog about the advantages of ready-to-assemble cabinets, offered by your company. While our article takes one viewpoint, the beauty of the web is that many viewpoints can be expressed and shared, allowing consumers to be fully educated. Much like anything in life, the “best” cabinets are the ones that appeal to each individual’s unique preferences, needs and budget.
Advice: Next time be honest and say “our company” instead of saying “their company” and trying to look like a customer or someone who does not work for the website which you are promoting. A couple of minutes of basic online detective work reveal the facts
The key to remember when dealing with Home Depot (and probably Lowe’s, too) is that it operates much like a large bureaucracy. When you try to get a hold of the person who handles scheduling of the workers for various products you might buy there (kitchen cabinets, carpet, tile floors, etc.), you might have go through a series of people in order to reach the right one. And even then, I found that she would not return my phone call and was almost never in! Everyone there knew that she was the right one to handle my scheduling problems, but she was almost never in and no one else could help me. Poor system design, I think. The other key is that almost no one takes charge to help you. You have to be your own advocate and really push them beyond what you would expect. For some people, that might really stress them out. Also, if you are in a hurry to get a kitchen done quickly (as I often am, as a real estate investor), I am going to avoid Home Depot because everything takes too long. You have to go through too many people to get something done that another company would be able to handle much more quickly. I like the cabinets and the carpeting for the last rehab I did that I got from them, but for the next two coming up, I’m going to go elsewhere and hope it works out better.
